Punica granatum has been one of the most cultivated fruit trees in the ancient world, prized for its tasty fruits. Originally from Asia, the name Punica is the ancient name of the city of Cartago. This deciduous shrub usually grows to 20 feet tall, very wings, dressed with small leaves and bright, which is held in small groups, giving a little look 'closed'. In spring, emerging from tan green and turn a golden yellow in autumn. The scarlet or orange-red has a visible, red calyx and ovary (bottom), giving a sort of look 'pink'. The flower, and thus widens the ovaries to produce fruit subglobose, 5.3 inches in diameter, becoming a deep wine-red when ripe (hence the name of the color of "pomegranate").
